40 years ago the first power unit of Chornobyl NPP was connected to the network
Exactly 40 years ago, on September 26, 1977, at 19.21, the turbine generator No.2 of the first power unit of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was connected to the electrical network. In Ukraine, this day is considered to be the birthday of nuclear power.
How was it?
August 1, 1977 at 20.10 - the first fuel assembly was loaded.
August 2, 1977 at 13.05 - a critical condition has been reached.
August 14, 1977 at 11.55 - full-scale reactor loading was completed.
September 18, 1977, at 16.17, an increase in reactor power began.
September 26, 1977, at 19.21 - the turbine generator No.2 was connected to the network.
November 2, 1977, about 7.23 - the turbine generator No.1 was connected to the network.
December 21, 1977 at 15.00 - power of the power unit was increased from 700 mW to 800 mW.
January 24, 1978, at 18.15, power unit No.1 of the Chornobyl NPP produced the first billion kWh of electricity.
November 16, 1978 - the physical launch of Chornobyl NPP power unit No.2 began.
April 22, 1979 - The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant generated the first 10 billion kWh of electricity.
December 3, 1981 - the power unit No.2 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant launched.
March 8, 1982 - Chornobyl NPP produced the first 50 billion kWh.
November 25, 1983 - the first fuel assembly was loaded into reactor of the fourth power unit of ChNPP.
December 21, 1983 – turbine generator No.7 of the fourth power unit is connected to the network.
August 21, 1984 - Chornobyl NPP produced the first 100 billion kWh of electricity.
The fate of the Chornobyl NPP was different: there were many achievements and victories on its way, and there was a sad page in history. One way or another, the station became the first to produce kWh and gave birth to the nuclear power industry in Ukraine.
