ChNPP received from the SNRIU the certificate of conformity for the constituent part of the ISF-2 container carriage
After the successful testing of the container carriage TK-700, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant received a certificate from the SNRIU, which approved the design of its packaging kit. It is intended to load a case with spent fuel assemblies from ISF-1, its transportation and unloading in the building of the plant for the preparation of spent nuclear fuel for further storage in ISF-2.
«Currently, spent nuclear fuel stored during the operation of ChNPP 1, 2 and 3 units is stored in the ISF-1 modern storage facility of «wet» type, the operation period of which is coming to an end. SNFP-2 is a modern «dry» storage facility designed for storage of spent fuel for the next 100 years. The guarantee of safety of transportation of spent nuclear fuel from the old to the new storage is extremely important during the operation of ISF-2», – Vitalii Petruk, the head of SAUEZM, said.
This certificate is evidence that the packaging kit meets the requirements of nuclear and radiation safety and it will be able to ensure the safe transportation of radioactive materials during the operation of the container carriage.
