In Slavutych, international experts discussed the process of decommissioning of ChNPP and a system for radioactive waste management
Oleh Nasvit, First Deputy Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, at the International Conference "Problems of Decommissioning of Nuclear Energy Facilities and the Restoration of the Environment" INUDECO 18, on April 25-27 in Slavutych, took part in the panel discussion on perspectives of the development of the Exclusion Zone and the role of Slavutych in them.
"We highly appreciate the contribution of Slavutych to the functioning of the Exclusion Zone, because the bulk of the skilled personnel that is working here is the Slavutychs. We confidently look at the future of the Exclusion Zone and see the development of science, technology and education there, so the agency is interested in the balanced development of all the communities around this territory," - Oleh Nasvit, First Deputy Head of SAUEZM, says.
The conference was attended by over 200 specialists from Belarus, Germany, Poland, the USA, Ukraine, France, the Czech Republic, Japan, who presented 90 reports. In particular, issues related to the decommissioning of nuclear power plants, radioactive waste management and spent nuclear fuel, information technologies for supporting these processes were considered, as well as the problems of environmental protection and the reintegration of the territory and population adaptation in connection with the decommissioning of the NPP which was the city-forming enterprise.
Within the framework of the event, khakaton "Slavutich - a city of new ideas" for young IT specialists took place, in which 10 teams had to develop the product or its prototype, which is needed for the city of ideas of the XXI century (energy conservation, ecology, transport, technology, etc.) in twenty-four hours. The winners were the students of NTUU "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Ihor Sikorskyi" and the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture.
On the last day of the conference, the participants visited the Chornobyl NPP industrial site, the observation pavilion for the new safe confinement, and the cities of Chornobyl and Prypiat, in order to get the most complete picture of the Chornobyl accident and progress in overcoming its consequences.
"The exchange of experience and the development of new knowledge on the prevention and elimination of the consequences of nuclear accident is extremely important for improving the cooperation of our countries and increasing the efficiency of scientific and practical research in this area," - Oleh Nasvit, First Deputy Head of SAUEZM, said.
According to the results of the conference INUDECO-2018 a collection of materials (abstracts and articles) of the speakers will be published.
Co-organizers of the event were the Executive Committee of the Slavutych City Council and the Institute for Security Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Municipal Enterprise "Regional Development Agency" of the Slavutych City Council made a direct organizational committee.
