On February 13, at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, under the chairmanship of Vitalii Petruk, the Head of the SAUEZM, a meeting of the SAUEZM College (hereinafter referred to as College) was held, in which the results of the work of the Exclusion Zone companies in 2017 were summed up. The Board of Directors includes the heads of enterprises belonging to the SAUEZM management area.
The meeting was attended by Hryhorii Plachkov, the Head of the State Nuclear Regulation Inspectorate of Ukraine, Ihor Yakovliev, action Head of the State Ecological Inspection of Ukraine, and Anatolii Slavis, representative of the Chornobyl Shelter Fund and EBRD's Nuclear Safety Account in Ukraine.
Oleh Nasvit, First Deputy Head of the SAUEZM and Volodymyr Feshchenko, Deputy Head of the SAUEZM, presented the report on the work in 2017 of the enterprises belonging to the SAUEZM management, work plan and priorities for 2018. Valerii Seida, acting Director General of the Chornobyl NPP and Andrii Burhomistrenko, Director General of the USC "Radon" told about the activity of enterprises and the long-term plans for 2018.
Among the main achievements of SAUEZM enterprises is the progress in decommissioning the Chornobyl NPP and the transformation of the Shelter Object into an ecologically safe system, overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl accident and carrying out measures to preserve the cultural and historical heritage in the exclusion zone and zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement , as well as providing and supporting the implementation of international technical assistance projects in Ukraine in the field of radioactive waste management.
In particular, in 2017, with the direct initiative and support of the SAUEZM, three international aid projects were launched, donated by the EU and the United States. The implementation of two of these projects is aimed at substantially strengthening the capabilities of the Emergency Response Brigades of the special enterprises of the SC "USC "Radon". Another project is the execution of works under the so-called Amnesty Program of Abandoned Radioactive Sources.
During the meeting, attention was also paid to the results of the SAUEZM internal audit service.
Emphasizing the need to use internal audit as a means for the development of enterprises in the Exclusion Zone, Vitaly Petruk reminded: "The Chornobyl NPP is audited by the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine each year. Last year's audit was especially indicative, because, according to the Accounting Chamber, there are no comments on the financial and economic activity of the station. This is evidence of an extremely high level of work of the ChNPP financial and economic services."
Summarizing the information disclosed to the College and outlining the tasks for 2018, Vitalii Petruk noted: "Today, security is the main objective that the activities of SAUEZM enterprises in the Exclusion Zone are aimed at. Radiation control and monitoring, radioactive waste management, removal of ChNPP from operation, commissioning of NSC and ISF-2, maintenance of territories in a safe sanitary and fire condition - the fulfillment of all these tasks reduces the risks of spreading radionuclides in the adjoining territories."
As the Head of SAUEZM emphasized, one of the priority tasks for 2018 is the development of the necessary infrastructure and maintenance of existing facilities for the management of radioactive waste at the present level, the organization of security measures and infrastructure improvement for the visitors of the Exclusion Zone, as well as the implementation of the project for the construction of the solar power park.
