To the 33rd anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster the Prime Minister of Ukraine was reported on the results of the pilot operation of the NSC and the construction completion of the 1st queue of the Vector complex
Within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman to the Exclusion zone on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster there was a commemoration of liquidators and working meetings. The events took place with the participation of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak, Head of SAUEZM Vitalii Petruk, President of SE «Energoatom»Yuri Nedashkovsky, Head of the SNRCU Gregory Plachkov, Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Oleksandr Tereshchuk, Slavutych Mayor Yuriy Fomichev and the management of the Exclusion zone.
In particular, Volodymyr Groysman visited the Chornobyl NPP, where he became acquainted with the state of implementation of the main tasks for the New Safe Confinement commissioning, decommissioning of the Chornobyl plant and transformation of the Shelter object into an environmentally safe system. Also, the Prime Minister visited the Centralized storage facility for spent fuel and the Vector complex, where the vast majority of Ukraine's radioactive waste management infrastructure (RW) is focused.
«The main task of the authorities is to ensure purity of the environment. Our Government has completed the Shelter project, we have restored the whole range of measures in order to ensure the safety of people's lives and health. Now the situation is completely stable. We, together with international partners, are implementing the latest technologies and solutions to overcome the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster», the Head of the Government said. He stressed that the implementation of all security measures will continue in the future.
The day before the anniversary of the Chornobyl catastrophe on the main security facility of the Exclusion zone - New safe confinement - successfully completed a 72-hours trial operation, which was aimed at verifying the functioning of all systems. Today we can talk about the readiness of the facility before the transition to pilot operation after receiving all the necessary permits. Such operation will last no more than 1 year, after which the ChNPP will be licensed and will proceed to NSC operation and dismantling of unstable structures of the Shelter Object.
In addition, the construction of the 1st queue of the Vector complex has been recently completed, which became possible for the first time since Ukraine’s independence due to the restoration of the targeted use of the funds from the State Fund for radioactive waste management, as well as a repository design for vitrified radioactive waste to be returned from the Russian Federation is being prepared. Among the important results were also presented the results of reconstruction and renovation of more than 10 infrastructure facilities of the Vector complex, which ensure the functioning of the radioactive waste management system.
