US Forest Service provides firefighters of the Exclusion Zone with quadcopters for timely detection of fires and control of the extinguishing process

Within the framework of cooperation between the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management and the US Forest Service, three quadropters were transferred to SSE «Pivnichna Pushcha», which will allow timely detection of fires and more effective monitoring of the extinguishing process.

«In close cooperation with the US Forest Service, 5 video surveillance cameras have already been installed in the exclusion zone in previous years. With the help of cameras the SSE «Pivnichna Pushcha» employees can react more quickly to smoke contamination or fire in the exclusion zone», - said Roman Kizyun, Director of the SSE «Pivnichna Pushcha».

In previous years individual protective suits, helmets, respirators, mobile extinguishers, fire equipment, and fire hoses were also provided to firefighters in the exclusion zone. In addition, trainings were conducted on basic training of forest firefighters, firefighting tactics, fire behavior, personal safety, coordination between land and air forces, basics of emergency management, etc.

«We are pleased to note that the level of our cooperation with the SES and SAUEZM has increased significantly in recent years. All this time we have worked hard with the support of the US State Department and the US Embassy in Ukraine, passing on equipment, relevant new knowledge and skills to our Ukrainian partners to put out these fires at a new strategic and security level. As extreme weather conditions create even more problems with forest fires around the world, we must work more closely together to successfully address these threats», - said Sheila Slemp, US Forest Service's Program Manager in Eastern Europe.
